BART Evening Service Adjustments Continue Through Summer 2026 | The Locally Times
Modernization efforts on the train control system impact late-night travel between Millbrae and Daly City.
BART is currently upgrading its infrastructure to a new Communications-Based Train Control system, which will remain in progress until Summer 2026. This project aims to increase capacity in the core system from 24 trains per hour to 30 trains per hour in each direction. As a result of this construction, riders traveling between Millbrae, SFO, San Bruno, South San Francisco, Colma, and Daly City should anticipate 30-minute delays on some Sunday through Thursday nights. These service impacts typically begin at 9:00 PM. To manage these disruptions, BART operates a shuttle train every 15 minutes between Millbrae and SFO, allowing for cross-platform transfers to the Yellow Line. After midnight, the final Yellow Line trains provide direct service to Millbrae without requiring a transfer, though the final train of the evening bypasses SFO entirely. BART updates its Trip Planner on a weekly basis to confirm if construction is scheduled for a specific week. Additionally, on July 19, 2026, separate lighting work in the Transbay Tube will reduce service to 1 track, causing trains to run every 30 minutes systemwide while limiting operations to 3 lines. BART first announced these Millbrae service changes in January 2025 to prioritize the implementation of the new technology in this specific section of the track.
