Caltrans schedules I-80 lane closures and ramp shutdowns through June 13
Motorists traveling the Interstate 80 Sierra corridor face delays of up to two hours starting Sunday, June 7, as Caltrans District 3 begins a series of pavement rehabilitation and emergency repair projects. The work spans from Applegate to the Nevada state line and continues through June 13. Caltrans advises drivers to check the QuickMap real-time traffic system before departing. ## Construction Schedule The Blue Canyon Pavement Rehabilitation Project, which repairs road surfaces between Applegate and Canyon Way, requires lane and ramp closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly from June 7 through June 11. Additional work is set for 10 p.m. Friday, June 12, to 6 a.m. Saturday, June 13. The Alta Pavement Improvement Project between Colfax and Monte Vista requires closures from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on June 8 and June 9. Crews will close lanes and ramps near Gold Run from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. between Tuesday, June 9, and Thursday, June 11, with work ending at noon on Friday, June 12. The Monte Vista Pavement Rehabilitation Project, located between Monte Vista and Drum Forebay, involves 24-hour lane closures from 6 a.m. Monday, June 8, through 10 a.m. Friday, June 12. ## Ramp Closures and Detours The Crystal Springs on- and off-ramps are closed; eastbound motorists must detour to Baxter and return westbound to access the area. The Drum Forebay on- and off-ramps are also closed, with traffic directed to the next available exit to loop back. The Donner Lake Vista Point closes at 7 a.m. on Monday, June 8, and remains inaccessible through the end of June. Lane closures between the Vista Point and the Donner Lake Interchange are set for 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, Monday through Thursday. ## Emergency Repairs Caltrans is conducting an Emergency Culvert/Rockfall Project, which repairs drainage pipes and stabilizes slopes, near Boca and the Sierra/Nevada County line. Intermittent traffic breaks are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, through Thursday, June 11, with individual delays of up to 30 minutes per stop. Westbound traffic will encounter lane closures between the Sierra/Nevada County line and Farad, and between Floriston and Hinton Road, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, Monday through Thursday. Caltrans has not provided alternative route maps for the Sierra corridor. ## Key Questions **How much extra time should I add to my trip?** Caltrans reports that cumulative delays for travelers crossing the entire I-80 Sierra corridor could reach up to two hours depending on traffic volume. **Are there any detours available for the ramp closures?** For the closed Crystal Springs and Drum Forebay ramps, motorists must travel to the next available exit and return on the opposite side of the highway to reach their destination. **When will the emergency repairs at Donner Lake be finished?** The Donner Lake Vista Point is scheduled to remain closed for emergency culvert repairs until the end of June.
