Wisconsin DNR seeks private landowners to host disabled-accessible deer hunts | The Locally Times

Landowners must manage at least 60 acres to participate in the fall program, which provides hunting access for 400 individuals.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) requires private landowners to submit online applications by July 1, 2026, to host a Gun Deer Hunt for Hunters with Disabilities. The program, which has operated since 1992, facilitates hunting opportunities for approximately 400 participants annually. ## Program Requirements To qualify as a host, landowners must provide at least 60 acres of property and commit to hosting a minimum of three hunters. The DNR recommends a density of at least one hunter per 20 acres. Properties failing to meet the 60-acre or three-hunter threshold may receive approval on a case-by-case basis, according to the DNR’s June 10 release. Sponsors are responsible for submitting a complete list of all participating hunters, including their names, phone numbers, and DNR Customer IDs, by September 15. Landowners must complete all property information fields on the online application to be considered for the 2026 season. ## Schedule Changes For the 2026 season, the program structure includes specific date-based restrictions. From October 3 through October 9, hunting must occur exclusively on properties enrolled in the program. On the weekend of October 10 and 11, which coincides with the state's Youth Deer Hunt, eligible hunters may access public land or any private property where they have received permission to hunt, regardless of program enrollment. ## What to Watch Interested landowners can access the application through the DNR website. The agency has not released the total number of currently enrolled properties or the specific geographic distribution of available land for the 2026 season as of June 10.
