Madison hosts mattress recycling and donation event at Alliant Energy Center | The Locally Times
The August 14 event allows residents to recycle mattresses for a $20 fee and donate household goods to local charities.
The City of Madison Streets Division and the Dane County Department of Waste & Renewables will host a one-day donation and mattress recycling event on August 14, 2026. The event, titled Mooveapalooza, is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Alliant Energy Center. ## Recycling and Donation Details Residents can recycle mattresses and box springs for a $20 fee per item, payable by cash or credit card to 7 Rivers Recycling. The fee applies regardless of the item's size. To be accepted, items must be dry, free of bodily fluids, mold, or pests, and have all bedding removed. In addition to mattress recycling, the event serves as a donation site for usable household goods. St. Vincent de Paul will accept clothes, books, toys, and non-perishable food items. Habitat for Humanity will accept furniture, tools, and home décor. The city requires that all donated items be cleaned of dust and debris, and that smaller items be boxed or bagged prior to arrival. ## Event Logistics Attendees should enter the Alliant Energy Center from Rimrock Road and follow signs toward the New Holland Pavilions. The designated donation and recycling areas are located in the parking lots south of the pavilions, near the administrative buildings. Currently, mattresses collected through the city’s standard large item pickup or delivered to municipal drop-off sites are sent to the Dane County Landfill. This event provides an alternative disposal method for these items.
