A 40-year-old driver died after his vehicle struck a light pole on American Parkway early Friday.

A 40-year-old driver died early Friday morning after the vehicle he was driving failed to negotiate a curve on American Parkway, left the road, drove through the median and crashed into a light pole. Madison police officers were dispatched to the area of American Family Drive and American Parkway around 12:30 a.m. on September 18 and arrived to find the vehicle on fire. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the vehicle was able to get out and was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. Madison Fire was dispatched at 12:36 a.m. and arrived at 12:42 a.m., finding the vehicle completely engulfed in flames with an occupant inside. Firefighters began fire suppression efforts and determined the driver was deceased. A long line of debris along the roadway indicated the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the crash. Madison Police located the passenger some distance off-road and escorted them to the ambulance; paramedics transported the passenger to the hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening. The Madison Fire Department also responded to the incident.
