Congressman Bryan Steil's most recent financial disclosure lists stock in GE Vernova, the company that supplies large-scale gas turbines for data centers, valued between $15,000 and $50,000. Steil has publicly supported data center development, arguing in July that data centers in Wisconsin are good because of tax revenue and earlier this year claiming a need for data centers in the U.S. versus China or Russia. GE Vernova's website states the company provides electrification solutions for data center operators, and companies including Microsoft, SpaceX, and OpenAI have purchased its turbines. Steil also accepted $13,000 in campaign contributions from WEC Energy Group between 2018 and 2026, the parent company of We Energies, which is powering Microsoft's new data center in his district. The Milwaukee Courier report also notes that a Marquette University Law School poll in August found 78% of respondents say data center costs outweigh benefits and 67% favor a moratorium.
