Speedway Sand and Gravel will build public utility improvements in two phases through October 26, with lane closures and bus stop relocations.
Speedway Sand and Gravel will close lanes on S Broom and W Doty streets starting Monday, October 5, to build public utility improvements for a private development project at the two streets' intersection. The city's October 2 street closure notice divides the work into two phases totaling approximately three weeks. Pedestrian access will be maintained on one side of the street throughout the project. Phase 1 covers S Broom Street from approximately October 5 to October 11. The right lane will close north of the Doty Street intersection during off-peak hours, with traffic shifted into the left lane. The Metro Transit stop will move to two temporary locations for the full Broom Street work period: one on S Broom Street south of Doty Street and one on Doty Street east of S Broom Street. Northbound bicycle traffic on Broom Street will use the full travel lane, while southbound bicycles will detour via Main Street, Henry Street, and Doty Street. Phase 2 covers W Doty Street from approximately October 12 to October 26, beginning once the Broom Street work is complete. Doty Street will close to eastbound traffic at Broom Street, and westbound traffic will shift into the typical eastbound lane. The notice lists the city's Parking, Traffic Engineering, and Transportation departments, and describes both phase dates as approximate.
