Red Rocks College Named First-Generation Serving Institution | The Locally Times
The Colorado Department of Higher Education recognized the college for its consistent support of students whose families have no prior college experience.
Red Rocks Community College has been designated a First-Generation Serving Institution by the Colorado Department of Higher Education. This recognition highlights the college's sustained commitment to students who are the first in their families to pursue higher education. To earn this designation, institutions must demonstrate a higher percentage of first-generation students than the state average of 37% for three consecutive years. Red Rocks Community College has met this requirement, with the state also identifying the college for this designation in November 2024. The college's efforts extend beyond initial access, focusing on student success through expanded TRIO programming. This academic year, Red Rocks Community College secured two federal grants to bolster its TRIO services. These programs offer individualized support, including academic tutoring, financial aid guidance, career exploration, and mentoring, to help first-generation students navigate their college journey and achieve their academic goals.
