The city will hold six workshops in November and December to explain the updated rental code, which the Mayor and Council adopted unanimously in July.
Rockville's updated rental housing code takes effect Jan. 1, and the city has scheduled six workshops in November and December to explain the new rules to landlords and tenants. The changes fall under Chapter 18 of Rockville City Code, which governs rental facilities and landlord-tenant relations. The update limits the fees landlords may charge, expands relocation assistance for tenants displaced by code violations or unfit housing conditions, requires clearer disclosure of lease terms and costs, and adds stronger enforcement tools. The city describes the code as clarifying rental housing requirements, strengthening tenant protections and increasing transparency. Tenant workshops are set for Nov. 9 and Dec. 10, both virtual, and Dec. 2 at Rockville Memorial Library, first-floor meeting room, 21 Maryland Ave. Landlord workshops are set for Nov. 12 and Dec. 9, both virtual, and Nov. 30 at Rockville Memorial Library. All sessions run from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and registration links for the virtual sessions are listed on the city's announcement. Residents with questions can contact the city's landlord-tenant affairs program at latinfo@rockvillemd.gov or visit the Landlord-Tenant Code page.
