The District sued the owners of 1828 Q Street SE for failing to secure the building against drug activity.
Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb announced a lawsuit on September 22, 2026, against the owners of 1828 Q Street SE, a 36-unit apartment building in the Fairlawn neighborhood of Ward 8. The complaint alleges the owners violated the District's Drug-, Firearm-, or Prostitution-Related Nuisance Abatement Act by failing to secure the building against ongoing drug distribution and use. The property is owned by 1828 Q Street SE Apartments LLC, Marquis Bailey, and Dion Robertson. From May 2026 through August 2026, MPD and federal law enforcement made multiple drug arrests, including for possession with intent to distribute, and seized cocaine and crack cocaine. The complaint alleges the building has become overrun with squatters and is widely known as a location for drug sales. The building sits within blocks of Boone Elementary, Kramer Middle, and Anacostia High School. OAG is seeking a court order requiring the owners to make security improvements and to pay penalties for violating District law. The release does not include a response from the property owners.
