Voorheesville, New Scotland Host Hazardous Waste Collection Day | The Locally Times
Residents can dispose of pesticides, paints, and automotive fluids at the April 18 event, with pre-registration required.
Voorheesville and New Scotland are joining forces to host a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, April 18, 2026. The event, sponsored by the Town of New Scotland Highway Department, is open to residents of both the Town of New Scotland and the Village of Voorheesville. Acceptable waste items include pesticides, paints and stains, drain cleaners, pool chemicals, automotive fluids and batteries, and gasoline and kerosene. Residents must pre-register to attend. Empty aerosols and dried latex paint can be disposed of in regular trash. Coupons are required for participation. As The Locally Times reported on April 18, 2026, such collection days are key for protecting local waterways from toxic chemical runoff. The program is partially financed by a grant from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. To pre-register, New Scotland residents can call Jess at 518-765-2681 or email JCrusado@townofnewscotland.com. Voorheesville residents can also use the online form available at https://www.villageofvoorheesville.gov/FormCenter/Village-Forms-2/Household-Hazardous-Waste-Collection-Eve-54. What to watch: Residents should note the pre-registration requirement and gather acceptable hazardous waste items in original, labeled containers. Workers will unload materials from vehicles for safety.
